Irish history for every generation.

A gripping true story about an Irishman (Bernard) who had been wrongly accused of a crime.

This book takes the reader on Bernard's journey through the torture he received from the RUC during the 1970's and his strength to become the first person to win a civil case for torture against the RUC.

The book is extremely in-depth and extremely hard to put down. An excellent read on a man journey from hell to justice.

What an amazing read. This man & his young family went through so much. It’s a huge insight as to what went on in Northern Ireland back in the day. We southerners hadn’t a clue, I know I didn’t. I would most certainly recommend a read to the younger generation, it’s definitely an insight & educational.

Honest , open and factual account of one mans torture and subsequent search for justice

This is a must read for those who like true life stories. It is a factual and inciteful look at life for those who dared to passively demand civil rights for all in the North of the 60's and 70's. A must read that is hard to put down until you reach the last word. Written by the author himself it is a tale of one mans belief that justice would prevail even if those enforcing it were brutal bullies. His photographic memory of his interrogations torture, his release without any charge and his subsequent proving of it in a civil court case is enthralling and compulsive reading. I am looking forward to his book signing in Mulveys on Sat 3rd August ...this is definitely one for the collection.

In 1977, the author was taken to Castlereagh Interrogation Centre, Belfast, and was tortured for four days in an attempt to elicit confessions to terrorism.

In 1980 O'Connor made history by becoming the first person to win a civil case for torture against the Royal Ulster Constabulary. In this book, Bernard O'Connor tells of the trauma he suffered at the hands of the state and charts his triumphant recovery to a new life.
